My favorite experience of the church year is that sublime moment when we dim the lights and light the Christmas candles. A warm glow washes over the sanctuary.
Bess Streeter Aldrich, in Song of Years, wrote, “Christmas Eve was a night of song that wrapped itself about you like a shawl. But it warmed more than your body. It warmed your heart… filled it, too, with a melody that would last forever. Even though you grew up… the melody would stay in your heart always–a song for all the years.”
I’m looking forward to sharing this holy, warming moment with you on Sunday when we receive something that lasts forever.
We have three candlelight services at 5:00, 7:30, and 10:00 p.m. The prelude to the 5:00 service is our annual Children’s Christmas Recital, which begins at 4:30. We have so many talented young people in our church. They always bring such joy to the beginning of the service.
Nursery care is available at the 5:00 and 7:30 services.
Communion will be served at the 10:00 pm service. Communion at the late service can be a powerful moment of cleansing and hope. At Bay Shore Church everyone is invited to participate in communion, they need not be members of a church.
Note that this year the bell choir will play at the 7:30 pm service only. Our children’s choir will sing at 5:00 pm and the chancel choir at 7:30 and 10:00 pm.
Also, remember that we will have our regular Sunday 9:30 am service to celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent.
