United Church of Christ General Synod 2015
Every two years, General Synod brings together thousands of faithful members of the United Church of Christ for formal church witness, inspirational worship, and fellowship with friends (new and old). Long Beach hosted the 2013 General Synod.
In June 2015, thousands from across the country (and abroad) will gather for General Synod 30 in Cleveland, Ohio — the birthplace of the United Church of Christ. Together, we will discern resolutions of witness, church structure, and function. We will stand up for issues that demand a faithful witness. And we will join together in worship each day to lift up the Stillspeaking God.At General Synod 30, we will explore some of the “Unexpected Places” where we hear God’s voice, encounter the Spirit, and find the United Church of Christ lifting up its witness in the world.

Honoring Our Veterans
Only after I married a U.S. Army veteran did I realize the importance of Veteran’s Day. In honor of the veterans at Bay Shore Church, I plan to gather information about your military service and create a booklet. Copies will be available in November 2015 for a Veteran’s Day memento. Here’s how you can help:
1. If YOU are a military veteran and attend Bay Shore Church, please compile basic information about your dates of military service, branch of the military, where you were stationed, honors you received, and any memories you wish to share (500 words or less). If you are not comfortable writing about your military experience, an interview will be scheduled. A photo taken while you were in the service would be appreciated, and will be scanned and returned. Submit this information to the church office.
2. If you would like to assist with this project to follow-up with interview questions, help with graphics, or printing – volunteers are welcome! The forms are available in the church office.
Thanks for your assistance!

Updated Mission Moments on Heifer International
The ongoing effort to help April’s earthquake victims of Nepal has raised $955. The Worldwide and Homeland Missions Commission is going to round that amount up to $1000 and then match the funds with another $1000. The total amount of $2000 will be sent to Heifer International to aid their efforts in Nepal. Heifer International is providing shelter, blankets and other immediate basic needs during this upcoming monsoon season. As soon as they are able, Heifer will reinstate “Pass the Gift Along” program and replenish the livestock in the villages. Bay Shore’s gift of $2000 to Heifer will help in reaching these goals.

THANK YOU NOTES
I mean you, Mustard Seed… you who see an unfamiliar person sitting in your pew and introduce yourself … you who see someone standing alone in the Concert Hall and say a friendly “hello” … you who welcome a visitor into your chat group with a smile… you who offer a stranger a cup of coffee. In Dave’s sermon, the little mustard seed grew into a huge bush and changed the landscape. That’s you … you are the reason so many people leave Bay Shore Church remarking on what a friendly church it is.
Long Beach Rescue Mission
Thank you for giving a gift that changes and saves lives! I’m humbled by your generous gift of $250 in Smart&Final Gift Cards. Every gift you give to Long Beach Rescue Mission comforts and protects the men, women, and children here, surrounding them with love and life-saving help. The difference you are making in the lives of hurting souls in the greater Long Beach area is real and incredibly important. Every person who walks through our door and walks out again, healthy and transformed by God’s love, does so because of your kindness.
Serving with you,
