Rev. Dr. David Clark, Senior Minister
Dave Clark is a transplanted Iowan who began his ministry as our Senior Minister in December 2014. He is a dynamic preacher and compassionate pastor. He earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Southern Methodist University with an emphasis in helping people live out faith in their daily lives. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Yale University Divinity School with an emphasis in social ethics. His undergraduate degree is from Westmar College with dual majors in religion and management. He is sought after to lead workshops on preaching, administration and church growth. Rev. Clark feeds his soul by hiking, enjoying the arts and listening to music (he’s a self-described Springsteen nut). His favorite activity for spiritual renewal is sticking his toes in the ocean. He considers his personal story to be a redemption story that speaks of the love and grace of God that shines forth especially in difficult times. His goal is to model the kind of authenticity and vulnerability that makes for true community. He is married to Rev. Dayna Kinkade, Senior Pastor of First Christian Church, Orange.
Rev. Susie Bjork, Associate Minister
Susie Bjork was born and raised in Los Alamos, NM. After graduating from Los Alamos High School in 1998, Susie entered Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion in 2002. Susie went on to receive her Master of Divinity degree from Pacific School of Religion, a member school of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU), in Berkeley, CA in 2007. While at seminary, she met her husband, Dave Winter, who was studying theology at a partner school within the GTU. Susie was ordained at First Congregational United Church of Christ of Colorado Springs in March 2009 and began her ministry at Bay Shore Church in April 2009. Susie is responsible for various pastoral duties including providing direction to the Christian educational ministry of the church for children, youth, and adults which she approaches with a passion for learning and spiritual formation for all ages. Susie enjoys the arts (especially visual journaling and multimedia work) and is passionate about the intersection between creativity and spirituality.
Julie Ramsey, Director of Music
Julie is the Director of Music at Bay Shore, and conducts the Chancel Choir, Children's Choir, and Bay Shore Bells. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the University of California at Los Angeles, and her Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from California State University, Long Beach. She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association of Church Musicians, and is an active adjudicator for the Music in the Parks and Festivals at Sea programs. Julie has been on the faculty of CSULB and Biola University, teaching choral music and conducting, has taught public school at all levels, and has directed adult and children's church choirs throughout the Southland. She has served as Director of Music at Bay Shore Church since September 2006.
Robert York, Organist
Robert York, B.M., M.M. began his career at the age of 14 as a church organist and concert artist in Portland, Oregon. He received a Baccalaureate of Music in Piano Performance at Marylhurst University, Portland, relocated to Los Angeles in 1986, and Long Beach in 2000. In 2011 he was granted a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from California State University Long Beach, which included his published research, "A Re-contextualization of the Organ Works of Maurice Duruflé: A Case for the Prélude from Suite op.5 and Méditation.”
In 2005 Robert began organ and improvisation study in Paris, France with Sophie-Veronique Cauchefer-Choplin, Organist co-titular of St.Sulpice Church, Paris until the completion of his Masters degree, and since has studied briefly with Vincent Warnier, Titular of St. Etienne du Mont, Paris and successor to Maurice Duruflé, and more recently with Daniel Roth, titular of St. Sulpice and successor to organists from the 1600s through Widor and Marcel Dupré.
Mr. York is Accompanist/Vocal Coach at Los Angeles Harbor College. For many years he was Organist for the historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles as one of few versed in the art of theater organ performance and in improvising silent films, something he does periodically at various venues. He continues to perform jazz, frequently with the quintet Swingset.
Robert made his European concert debut in 2009, in Szamatuły, Poland, and his Paris debut in 2010, continuing to perform more frequently in 2011 at St. Jean-Baptiste de la Salle, St. Sulpice and St. Germain-des-Prés, Paris, and churches in Nogent-le-Roi and Saint-Valery-Sur-Somme, France. For the past several years in July and August he has performed at St. Martin des Champs, Paris and continues his annual summer piano concert known locally as “Piano sur la dune” in Noirmoutier en L’isle, France. July 2016 brought about his debut in Belgium on an historic instrument in Landen, with an invitation for a concert tour throughout the Brussels region, and Leuven.
Charlene Bennett, Administrative Assistant
Charlene Bennett was born and raised in Albany, New York. After graduating Colonie Central High School in 1973, Charlene entered the Travel Education Center in Cambridge MA. to further her education in all aspects of the travel industry. Charlene remained in the travel industry for 25 plus years, and along the way met her husband Greg at a travel agent seminar in Washington D.C. and they eventually relocated to Southern California. Married for 27 years, Charlene and Greg have two beautiful children Garrett 18 and Lauren 15. Charlene joined the Bay Shore staff as Administrative Assistant in November 2010.
Joe Sandhu, Custodian
Joe Sandhu was born in India in 1984. He served in the United States Army from 2003-2009. He enjoys the rockabilly scene, is married to a beautiful woman named Nadia, and the proud father of his son, Giaan. Joe joined the Bay Shore staff as Custodian in November 2011.
Chap Cooper, Sound Engineer
Chap Cooper, a Long Beach native works as a Sound Designer and Educator. Having designed and installed well over a 100 sound systems in churches, schools and entertainment venues, Chap also teaches "Sound Reinforcement" at Long Beach City College. As a freelance audio engineer, he has mixed live concerts for many of the world's top musicians and continues to do so.
Felicity Miller, Nursery Caregiver
Felicity Miller has worked for Bay Shore Church for over 20 years. She started her position as Nursery Caregiver when she was 18 years old and studying Childhood Education at Long Beach City College. Since then, she married Lonnie Ray Miller and had two wonderful children of her own, Madison and Soren. Felicity lives in Huntington Beach with her family and has also worked at Hyundai Motor America for the last 16 years. She loves all the babies and toddlers she has the opportunity to care for each week and enjoys seeing them grow into wonderful young people. She also enjoys meeting and working with all of the wonderful families at Bay Shore.
