Missions

Mission ProjectMission and service are a vital part of Bay Shore Church and central to our mission and ministry. Throughout the year our congregation participates in many different mission projects, donates to special mission offerings, and supports worthy organizations both in Long Beach and beyond. The following are our annual and ongoing mission activities.

 

Christian Outreach in Action
Cook and serve monthly meals and offer financial support; for more details, visit the COA page

 

St. Mary’s CARE
Ongoing collection of food, personal care items and toiletries for the St. Mary’s CARE program which supports HIV/AIDS patients and their families

 

 

CROP Hunger Walk
Church members walk and donate on behalf of walkers in this annual fundraiser for Church World Service; proceeds benefit the organization’s global development and relief work

 

Alternative Christmas Market
A November sale of alternative Christmas gifts from Heifer Project International, Habitat for Humanity, and Church World Service in which people can support the work of these organizations by purchasing shares of farm animals, tools, vaccines, school supplies, etc.

 

Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive
On the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving, we bring bags of canned food, dry goods, and other nonperishable items to worship; after church the youth sort and box them so the items canned be picked up by two local organizations, Woman to Woman and Centro Shalom, which serve the hungry, homeless, and families in need in Long Beach

 

Christmas Families Project
Annual collection of furniture, clothing, gifts, etc. for families in need in Long Beach, see the Christmas Families Project page for more details

 

Support of Local Organizations
Ongoing financial support and special offerings to benefit Long Beach Rescue Mission, Precious Lamb Preschool, Food Finders, and Meals on Wheels, in addition to the other organizations mentioned above

 

Annual Special Offerings
We support two special offerings through the United Church of Christ; Neighbors in Need supports ministries of justice and compassion as well as American Indian Ministries; One Great Hour of Sharing supports the global development and relief work of the United Church of Christ and Church World Service

 

Scholarships
Annually, we donate funds to support Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ students at Chapman University as well as seminary students at Pacific School of Religion

 

Red Cross Blood Drive
Every year, we host a community-wide blood drive in our youth center through the Red Cross

 

Multi-Service Center
Ongoing collection of towels and toiletries for the Long Beach Multi-Service Center, which provides a variety of services for the homeless
